Young Adult Science Cafes (YA Science Cafes) are career-oriented presentations by STEM professionals and leaders. The program is supported through an American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) Public Outreach Committee Seed Grant to Expand Science Cafes in the Montgomery County Region. The ASBMB USG (an ASBMB Undergraduate Affiliate Network at The Universities at Shady Grove) Student Chapter promotes interest in STEM areas, raises general public awareness about current issues in STEM fields, and provides opportunities for undergraduate students and members of the scientific community to engage in discussions through periodic “Young Adult Science Cafes.” YA Cafes are free and open to middle school, high school, and college students. Middle school students are encouraged to attend and must be accompanied by an adult.
