We have launched!
In Reach is excited about piloting STEM Unplugged with students at Kenmoor Middle School in Landover, MD. On January 16 and 23, 2019, we held training and orientation workshops for our eager STEM Ambassadors. Students invested time in getting to know each other, completed hands-on team challenges and interacted with guest presenter Mr. Jaracus Copes, STEM Instructional Designer from Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. Everyone is excited and looking for forward to preparing for and hosting upcoming cafes.
In Reach’s STEM Unplugged Teen Café promotes exploration, stewardship, and inquiry of STEM careers and opportunities. This is done by training STEM Ambassadors, a leadership team of 10-15 middle school students in grades 6-8, to take on leadership roles in organizing and hosting monthly cafés for their peers. The interactive and hands-on cafés will be led by STEM professionals and will engage students at the partner school in a variety of educational opportunities to increase their knowledge about STEM topics and concepts, and support the exploration of STEM professions.
