The COVID-19 Cafes: Vaccines, Immunology, and Advocacy with Epidemiologist Dr. Paul Offit

Dr. Paul Offit, an epidemiologist and expert on developing vaccines talks about the efforts to create a Coronavirus vaccine.

Description:
I’m sure it may seem like the end to all of this chaos is nowhere in sight while healthcare workers, public service agents, and scientists are doing their best to slow and treat the situation. However, none of this will truly be over until we are able to develop a vaccine, immunize the world, and attempt to return to some semblance of normal life.

So, how are vaccines actually developed? From synthesis to experimentation to market distribution, the mechanism of creating a fool-proof vaccine is an arduous process.

Inside, the Cafe has invited Dr. Paul Offit to speak at our first ever virtual cafe. He is the co-inventor of a rotavirus vaccine that has been credited with saving hundreds of lives every day, the Maurice R. Hilleman Professor of Vaccinology, a professor of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and the director of the Vaccine Education Center at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Additionally, he has been a member of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. If we were to list all that he has done for the healthcare industry, this introduction would be pages long.

So, join us on Monday April 20th, from 1pm-3pm (via ZOOM, link at the bottom of post) to take a step back and assess the mechanisms behind the solution ahead. Dr. Offit will be speaking about his career choices, academic path, and answer any personal or SARS-CoV-2 related questions you may have.

See y’all there!
